Wind Barn begins with the question of how traditional retail markets might survive and transform after the epidemic. In places such as Huaqiangbei, markets have long functioned as engines of trade and innovation, yet their spatial organisation often remains enclosed, transactional, and functionally rigid. The project asks whether such markets can evolve into more open environments that support not only exchange, but also learning, making, and collective participation.

In response, the proposal breaks down the enclosed spatial structure of the existing market and reconnects interior and exterior conditions. It introduces creative spaces where production and consumption can overlap, allowing visitors to move between exhibition, workshop, material exploration, and product presentation. Instead of positioning customers as passive consumers, the project redefines them as participants who can observe, learn, imagine, and contribute to the creative process.

The project develops this transformation through a sequence of chapters focused on open-ended workshops, inspiration gathering, material display, productive landscapes, and final presentation. Interactive installations support different states of activity, from preparation to live events, while an AI-assisted interface allows visitors to input speculative ideas and generate new product possibilities. In this way, Wind Barn proposes a market model in which innovation is not hidden behind the counter, but becomes visible, participatory, and spatially staged.
